The ingredients needed to prepare Nishime:
  1. Prepare Ingredients
  2. Get 2 lb Chicken thighs
  3. Provide 6 carrots
  4. Provide 5 each Araimo
  5. You need 2 Gobo
  6. Use 1 packages Nishime konbu
  7. Provide 1 packages Konnyaku
  8. Prepare 1 packages Aburage
  9. Take 1 can Takenoko
  10. You need 6 Shiitake
  11. Get 4 cup Mushroom/Konbu water
  12. Prepare 1/2 cup Sugar
  13. Use 1/2 cup Shoyu
Steps to make Nishime:
  1. Soak konbu & mushrooms for 2 hours.
  2. Wash konbu & tie in knots about 2 inches apart. Cut between knots.
  3. Slice shiitake in bite sized pieces.
  4. Par boil Araimo, peel and cut in bite sized pieces.
  5. Scrape gobo & cut into 1/4" thick diagonal 1inch slices. Soak in water.
  6. Peel & cut carrots in bite sized pieces.
  7. Massage konnyaku with salt. Slice & make 1/2" slits. Flip one end thru slit to make twists.
  8. Cut aburage in bite sizes pieces.
  9. Fry chicken (or pork belly) in oil until light brown.
  10. Add water, konbu, shiitake, aburage & konnyaku. Cover & cook for 15 minutes.
  11. Add shoyu, sugar, dashi-no-moto, takenoko, carrots & gobo and cook for 15 minutes.
  12. Add araimo and cook for 15 minutes.
