  1. You need 1 cup toor daal
  2. Use 1 cup chana daal

  7. Get 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  8. Use 2 teaspoons Coriander leaves

  10. Get 1/4 teaspoon kashmir red chilli powder
  11. Get 1/4 teaspoon kasturi methi
  12. Use 1/2 teaspoon black salt
  13. Get 1/2 teaspoon garam masala

  15. Get as required Ghee

  17. Use 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

Steps to make Dal tadka with rice:
  1. To a pressure cooker add toor dal and chana dal add turmeric and salt and 3 cups water.
  2. Pressure cook for 4 whistles on high heat then lower the heat and let it cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Let the pressure release naturally. If using an Instant Pot, cook on high pressure for 8 minutes with natural pressure release.  Set it aside.
  3. In a heavy bottom pan, heat ghee on medium heat. Once hot, add the cumin seeds, black pepper,hing, dry chilli and cloves. Saute few seconds until fragrant.
  4. Then add grated ginger and chilli, after add small size chopped tomato cook for 7 to 8 minutes until tomatoes are very soft and cooked.
  5. Then add the coriander powder, garam masala,black salt, kashmiri red chilli powder, red chilli powder and kasuri methi. Stir the spices with the masala for few 30 seconds
  6. Add the boiled dal to the pan and mix. I also added 1/2 cup water here as dal looked very thick to me.
  7. Let the dal simmer for 3 to 4 minutes add lemon juice
  8. Garnish Coriander leaves and Serve with rice or nan
